Temperature Control
for Printed Heating Elements
Tmax 210°C – Imax 10A / Tmax 200°C – Imax 16A / very short reaction time / low temperature overshoot / press-on version
Properly installed, the temperature regulator type 161 971 may be used wherever a fixed temperature needs to be controlled or monitored. The temperature regulator is designed especially for printed heating elements used eg. in water kettles, flow water heaters or flat electric heaters.
A vaulted bimetal disc is used as temperature sensing element. The disc is placed directly on the meander of the heating element of the eg. thick film heater, therefore quickly reacting to changes in temperature. Upon reaching the preset switch-off temperature, the bimetal disc operates and opens the electrical circuit. After cooling process the disc snaps back to its original position thereby closing the electrical circuit again. The temperature regulator is encased by a plastic housing made of Zytel 140 °C.

Applications
Properly installed, the temperature regulator type 161 971 may be used wherever a fixed temperature needs to be controlled or monitored. The temperature regulator is designed especially for printed heating elements used eg. in water kettles, flow water heaters or flat electric heaters.
Structure and mode of operation
A vaulted bimetal disc is used as temperature sensing element. The disc is placed directly on the meander of the heating element of the eg. thick film heater, therefore quickly reacting to changes in temperature. Upon reaching the preset switch-off temperature, the bimetal disc operates and opens the electrical circuit. After cooling process the disc snaps back to its original position thereby closing the electrical circuit again. The temperature regulator is encased by a plastic housing made of Zytel 140 °C.
Advantages
- variants up to Tmax 210°C
- very simple design with exposed bimetal disc
- designed for low-mass thick-film heating
- direct mounting on the meanders of the thick film possible
- very fast reaction speed, approx. 2-3 seconds, thereby minimizing the temperature overshoot
- secure contacting thanks to specially shaped spring contacts
- housing closed at the top, protection against contact and external influences
