The thermal cut-out 162 471 is suitable wherever the power supply in an electrical appliance must be interrupted permanently when the preset temperature is reached. Typical applications are e.g. electric kettles and coffeemakers with thermos flasks.
A bimetal disc is used as a temperature sensing element. Irrespective of the thermostat mounting position, this disc is pressed directly against the mounting plate and can therefore react quickly to changes in temperature. As soon as the preset temperature is reached the bimetal disc operates and opens the electrical contact, interrupting the circuit. On cooling the disc snaps back into the original position, closing the circuit again. A steel disc prevents the cut-out from resetting automatically. It must be reset manually by pressing the reset tab.
The thermal cut-out is also available with an additional "Off" tab to manually interrupt the heating process of the electrical device.
